Andrew May studied and trained in lighting design from a very early age. As well as previously working for a number of theatre companies, large and small, he has spent the last six years working with Glyndebourne Opera as an assistant lighting designer. His Lighting Design credits include La Fanciulla del West - King's Head Theatre (Islington), Cosi fan Tutte - LA Opera (Los Angeles), Of Water and Tears, Night Pieces, Yellow Sofa, Renard & Mavra and La Descente d'Orphée aux Enfers - Jerwood Chorus Development Programme (Glyndebourne/LPO), Who am I - Glyndebourne Youth Opera (Tête à Tête Festival), Ceremony of Carols - Glyndebourne Youth Opera (Glyndebourne) and thirteen annual productions for the Winchester School of Performing Arts. Throughout his career he has worked alongside some of the world's leading lighting designers, including Paule Constable, Mark Henderson, Robin Carter, Robert Bryan and Peter van Praet, whilst assisting on productions of Albert Herring, Tristan und Isolde, Cosi fan Tutte, Don Giovanni and The Rake's Progress for Glyndebourne Festival Opera. He also relit Peter Van Praet's production of L'Incoronazione di Poppea and Bernd Purkrabek's Don Pasquale for touring with Glyndebourne On Tour. His forthcoming productions include Le nozze di Figaro and Yellow Sofa - Glyndebourne.
